BENEFITS TO BECOMING A FOSTER CARE RECOVERY COACH
Reward of paying it forward to current foster youth who are struggling and have not yet found their path to recovery from the trauma of abuse and neglect
Reward of paying it forward to alumni of foster care who are continue to struggle after foster care
Unique peer-to-peer support opportunities through shared lived experiences of being in foster care
At River Jordan Inc., we understand the trauma of abuse and neglect. The Peer Recovery Coach model is an evidence-based practice that has made its way to Peer Recovery Coaches for Veterans, Incarcerated individuals, Mental Health patients, and those in Substance Use Disorder recovery. Over the years, this peer-to-peer coaching model has seen much success and has become the standard as an extension of mental health and addiction counseling services. Evidence also shows that helping others can benefit our own mental health and well-being. For example, it creates a sense of belonging, purpose, renewal, and can help boost self-esteem and overall confidence. In any population where peer recovery support is utilized as an extension of services to the consumer, the peer support model has proven itself continuously as being extremely beneficial when allied with other mental health professionals.
